Classically trained as a violinist, Diddley spent much of the '50s and '60s on the fringes, honing his craft and, at one point during the '70s, served as a deputy for the Sandoval County Sheriff's Office in Los Lunas (that's right, New Mexico). His penchant for fun-loving jive and his charisma and mystique were brought to the forefront for the '80s generation with his appearance in the video for George Thorogood and the Destroyers' “Bad to the Bone.” He hasn't looked back since.
In 2004, Bo Diddley is still touring and recording, reminding us what real rock 'n' roll is supposed to sound like. His performance tonight is part of the ongoing grand reopening celebration sponsored by historic El Rey Theater. Mayor Martin Chavez will dedicate the newly refurbished marquee at 6 p.m.
