In its 12th iteration, High Mayhem’s Fall Series finds the curatorial vision of the collective as strong as ever. The penultimate weekend of the 2013 series happens on Saturday, Nov. 16 at High Mayhem (2811 Siler Lane, Santa Fe) and features the inaugural performance of Dino J.A. Deane’s Out of Context Guitar Choir along with sets from Bathetic Records-signed artist Angelo Harmsworth, occasional project The QT, performance art duo The Starlit Mire and experimental electronic outfit iNK oN pAPER. Hosted by Chace Haynes, the all-ages doors swing wide at 7pm, and there’s a suggested donation of $10.

Baroque experimentalist duo Teach Me Equals (formerly known as Bard and Mustache) conjures up warm, rarefied experimental pop. Vocals commingle with analog strings, weaving the fabric of the blues into an altogether modern standard with emphasis on powerful coed vox. Teach Me Equals’ Erin Murphy and Greg Bortnichak are currently touring the US in their 1979 Chalet pop-up camper, and the Floridian twosome perform and camp in Burque on Monday, Nov. 18 at The Tannex (1417 Fourth Street SW). Self-described “bomb bass noise rap” act Bigawatt and dream-pop/witch house/soul soloist Lady Uranium open. This all-ages show opens its eyes at 8pm, and admission is $8.

Iconic mezzo-soprano Pat Benatar is 60 years old, but she remains almost as visible on the pop culture radar as she did in the blush of youth. She’s most well-known for ’80s hits like “Hell is for Children,” “Love is a Battlefield,” “We Belong,” “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” and “Invincible,” the theme of cult film classic The Legend of Billie Jean. Benatar’s relentless touring schedule continues unabated. The penultimate stop on Benatar and partner Neil Giraldo’s November tour happens in Burque at Isleta Resort and Casino (11000 Broadway SE) on Tuesday, Nov. 19. Beginning at 7pm, fans aged 12-and-older can witness art created by the human most responsible for the continued popularity of Spandex. Tickets range from $25 to $35.

Canadian psych-pop/prog rock foursome The Besnard Lakes celebrates a decade of Jagjaguwar-signed splendor on their current tour. With four studio albums under their collective belt and a 2013 nomination of their latest, Until in Excess, Imperceptible UFO, for Canada’s most prestigious music award, the Polaris Music Prize, the band certainly isn’t experiencing creative drought. Catch the critically acclaimed group on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at Low Spirits (2823 Second Street NW). The 21-and-over gig revs up at 9pm, and admission is $8. Montrealer psych-pop band Elephant Stone and local shoegaze group Sad Baby Wolf open the show.
