Local bands cloak themselves in the aural (and costumed?) finery of beloved artists and belt out renditions—both sincere and revisioned—at Low Spirits (2823 Second Street NW) and Launchpad (618 Central SW) on Friday, Oct. 25, and Saturday, Oct. 26. The Low show kicks off on Friday at 8pm and highlights include Lovers & Madmen as Fleetwood Mac, Bellemah as Tears for Fears and Kimo as Gillian Welch; on Saturday at 9pm, Launchpad presents pre-Halloween redux, and standouts include The Coma Recovery as The Cure and Edith as Hole. Both shows are 21-and-over, and admission is $5.

LA funk/soul outfit Orgone has purveyed their positive, catchy take on the ’60s and ’70s funk vibe since 1999. The self-described “heavy, raw, adrenaline-fueled funk and sweat-dripping soul” act stops in Burque on Monday, Oct. 28 at Low Spirits (2823 Second Street SW). Orgone is a very fluid act, and its membership fluctuates frequently. The lineup on this tour is Sergio Rios (guitar), Dan Hastie (keys), Sam Halterman (drums), Darren Cardoza (trombone), Devin Williams (trumpet), Tiffany Austin (vocals), Chuck Prada (percussion) and Ethan Phillips and Chiquis Lozoya (bass). It’s finally cool enough to rock your vintage polyester threads, so arrive at Low by 9pm for this 21-and-over funk fest.

New wave-alt.pop duo Kisses hails from the City of Angels. The story of Kisses does involve a love story between two comely Angelenos, and it’s that sort of backstory that makes for cutesy web interviews. But the real reason to pay attention to this young band is its music. While debut full-length The Heart of the Nightlife was nothing to sneeze at, their latest, Kids in L.A., finds the twosome truly finding their groove with radio-ready hits like “Huddle” and “The Hardest Part.” Co-produced by Saint Etienne’s Pete Wiggs, Kids in L.A. delivers shimmering dance-pop that finds beauty in the mundanity of teenage-dom. See ‘em live at Sister (409 Central NW) on Wednesday, Oct. 30. The 21-and-over dance party revs up at 9pm, and admission is five bucks.
