Cruise flea markets, garage sales, etc. I’m a hopeless flea hound. I also adore flipping through old records at my favorite store—uh-huh—Charley’s! It smells like hippies in there … I love it! What are you reading? Voluptuous Panic: The Erotic World of Weimar Berlin , by Mel Gordon. What was the first concert you went to? Leon Russell, ’72, Denver Coliseum. How did this Brit-poppy, psychedelic-folky playlist come about? Funny story. I made a mix disc for my (poodle neck) girl boss Becki back in L.A. a couple of years ago. I don’t think she much cared for it since she never commented on it. Kids. Anyway, I happened to be listening to that disc the day I saw the contest in the Alibi. It was tough, but I selected the 10 best tunes out of about 23. The whole disc is a psych-pop masterpiece, in my humble opinion, and each individual album that the tracks were pulled from are major classics—some old, some new. … I really didn’t think my list would be considered, since I didn’t believe anyone would have actually heard of any of those artists. Any Albuquerque bands you’re into? Who? I haven’t lived here very long, so I don’t know what the scene is, actually. Where does one go from Silver Lake, Calif.? Anything else you’d like to share about yourself? I dig watching Fritz Lang movies, looking for the next hip thing while sipping coffee and writing haikus on napkins, dressed in black and smelling of reefer … did I say that? And old brown dachshunds rule … I love them all!
