If you've been paying attention you already know that Club Rhythm and Blues (3523 Central NE) is reopening on March 4. This is a huge and wonderful announcement for local performers and music connoisseurs alike. Along with a regular line-up of great acts and open mic nights, Club R&B will feature its New Artist Series, hosted by yours truly.

So here's the lo-down on the series. First of all, anyone interested in performing must be a brand new artist. This means that if you've taken your act on stage in the past, you are not eligible to register. If you've only played open mics you are eligible. We're sticking to acoustic music only, so if you have a band you'll have to keep that in mind. All bands and solo acts must have a roots-oriented base—no punk, heavy rock or metal allowed.

Each set will be limited to 20 minutes, and three judges who are actively involved in the local music scene will judge each performance. The three acts with the highest scores at the end of the evening will receive cash prizes.

The first New Artist Series will be held at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, March 31, and every last Wednesday of the month thereafter. Acts can register to perform by calling 247-0559, e-mailing RachelCRB@aol.com or you can show up at the club and register at the door. The registration fee is $5 per person and must be paid upon arrival. I look forward to hearing from all of you new musicians out there, so get on the horn and we'll get you set up for the Club Rhythm and Blues New Artist Series!
