Residents of the 505, or the Kirk as I like to call it, should be proud of local musician Paul Salazar who has been invited to take part in a New York songwriters’ showcase where he’ll be performing for industry bigwigs. What’s more is that you can witness his Monday, July 11, performance at CBGBs, and Sunday, July 17, performance at The Bitter End on a live webcast. Just go to www.cbgb.com at 7:45 p.m. (our time) on the 11th, and to the www.bitterend.com at 6:45 p.m. on the 17th. His show at The Bitter End also marks the release of his new album At The Helm, so give him a pat on the back when you see him perform at the District (on the Downtown Fourth Street Mall, here in the Kirk) on Wednesday, July 20, and Friday, July 22.

In other earth-shattering news, it looks like Barbie will take a break from shopping next spring to hit the road for an 80-city tour. Barbie, who will be portrayed by a human actress and supported by a bunch of fairies (real fairies), makes her stage debut in Barbie Live in Fairytopia, a marketing, I mean musical act based on the movie and aimed at 3- to 8-year-old girls. The tour marks a new partnership between Mattel and—who else?—Clear Channel Entertainment. I don't know about you, but I'm betting that the hardship and temptations of being on the road are going to add up. By next fall we'll be hearing about an alcoholic coke-head Barbie who crashed her Corvette, got her head ripped off by a pissed off fairy and whose relationship with Ken is falling apart. Can't wait.
