Essential Shows– No excuses. Get off the Lazy Boy and go hear some music. Friday at Burt’s. Like a young, fast, stripped-down ZZ-Top, you’ve got to see the twin flying-V guitars of ex-Butthole Surfer J.D. Pinkus and Bobby Ed Landgraf to believe them. They call these Southern motherfucking speedballs “Honky.” They’re at Burt’s, so it’s free but not all-ages. Saturday at the Launchpad and the Cell Theatre. For the past five years, CrazyFool has been playing a sincere, genuinely good blend of reggae, ska and hip-hop. They’ll release their second full-length album tonight at the Launchpad. Admission is $5 and $7, and all-ages. That same night, the all-ages Oscillation Festival is swinging into its second day at the Cell Theatre, which you can read up on in this week’s "Lucky 7" section. Sunday at El Rey Theater. Nine-time Grammy-winning Western swing band Asleep at the Wheel is at El Rey, and Le Chat Lunatique is opening. You many not recognize Chicago’s Tim Kinsella by name, but his projects–Cap’n Jazz, Joan of Arc and Owls–should ring a few bells. Incredibly, he’s making a stop at Warehouse 21 with his new project, Make Believe; a "jazzy and spastic tour de force," according to The Cherry Tempo’s Javier Romero. The all-ages show starts at 7 p.m., with a $6 cover.Also that night, The Albuquerque Music Association and Audio Excellence are launching a free monthly workshop series on the music business. The first workshop–a presentation on marketing and promotion that includes Neal Copperman of AMP Concerts–is this Monday at 7 p.m. at Audio Excellence (2605 Princeton NE, Suite B, 306-9055). Boston’s Bon Savants will celebrate the Nov. 7 release of their debut album with a show the following night right here in the middle of nowhere.
