Experiments in Cinema Burque’s annual celebration of cinematic experimentation comes with aural components: On Thursday, April 14, Spanish video artist Rafaël will present a new sound/image performance piece at the National Hispanic Cultural Center (1701 Fourth Street SW). The New Pornographers There must be a Canadian law that states no fewer than six people can be in your rock band (and half of them have to speak French). One of Canada’s most famous musical conglomerates is The New Pornographers. The Vancouver indie rock group is comprised of A.C. Newman and upwards of a dozen other people who’ve been making music together for a decade and a half. Record Store Day After brunch on Saturday, April 16, stop by Mecca Music & Books (1404 Central SW) and worship in the church that is the independently owned record store. Record Store Day is a national celebration of the culture surrounding these stores, and it sometimes involves free loot (though no promises are being made here). Yelle In support of second album Safari Disco Club , French dance-pop group Yelle—after the stage name of singer Julie Budet—makes a stop at the Launchpad (618 Central SW) on Tuesday night. American act the French Horn Rebellion along with The DA featuring DJ Dizzan provide supplementary performances. The supercool all-ages show begins at 7 p.m. Admission is $12.
