Evan Langford is a DJ at Blackbird Buvette, managing the frightful monthly party known as Post Burial. Hear him play post-punk, new wave, disco, electro, glam and/or deathrock there on Saturday, Aug. 6, beginning at 10 p.m. I asked Langford to put his MP3s on shuffle. Below are the random results.
1) “Deeez Nuuuts” • Dr. Dre • The Chronic “Classic G-funk track (with funky Moog bass) from the golden days of rap. This is one of my favs from the album, which is flawlessly nuuuts.”
2) “The Art of Sampling” • Robotiko Rejekto • The Cyper Space “Woah! Very German new beat slow jam from 1990. I’ll keep my spiel as minimal as this track is.”
3) “Costumes” • Gary War • Horribles Parade “A lo-fi psychy swirling mess of beauty from the Horribles Parade album. Can’t understand a word he’s singing, but that’s how I hear music when I don’t want to live anymore.”
4) “Up & Down” • Eddy Huntington • 7-inch single “Euro-bouncy hair always make me not want to die again!”
5) “Panic Zone” • N.W.A. • “Panic Zone” “Fully club-bangering every time! This captures you in another zone—a panic zone, in which the underworld has taken control. That nutty Dre had to go right ahead and take over everything, including my random top five.”
