Prizm is an electro fantasy trio from Portland, Ore., inspired by prog, krautrock and other synth-heavy ’70s creations. Its show combines sound design and a collage of projections, conjuring otherly realms. Along with Fleshtone, an electronic collaborative also from Portland, the group opens for The Gatherers’ album release at The Kosmos (1715 Fifth Street NW) on Wednesday, July 28, at 8 p.m. Admission for the all-ages show is $5. Find out what’s refracted in Kim, Jef and Azmo’s music library through these five randomly selected tracks.

Song Roulette

1) "Dervish D." • Vangelis • Spiral

"An amazing album that is a huge influence on our sound—lots of arpeggios, live drumming and a gorgeous soundtrack feel to it. The album artwork is very cool as well. Unfortunately, this is my least-favorite track on the album, but I’m still glad we got some Vangelis in on the roulette!" (Kim)

2) "By the Riverside" • Harmonia ’76 • Tracks & Traces

"Krautrock supergroup made up of members of Neu! and Cluster, combining the Kosmische and Motorik styles. This album added the ambient genius of Brian Eno. This group is a complete influence on Prizm’s aesthetic, style and texture." (Jef)

Song Roulette

3) "Unquenchable" • Tractile • 2006 min2max

"Minus has been cranking out the mnml techno for over a decade. The min2max compilations showcase some of the artists’ current works, and while they just scratch the surface, they never disappoint. I remember the day I bought this record almost five years ago while I was in Seattle for the dB Festival, and it still sounds like the future." (Azmo)

Song Roulette

4) "Kings of Speed" • Hawkwind • Warrior on the Edge of Time

"Lyrics by Michael Moorcock. They played solstice at Stonehenge. Lemmy was the damn bass player. What else do you need? They were rock and roll druids." (Jef)

Song Roulette

5) "Cities" • PVT (Formerly Pivot) • O Download My Heart

"The Australian synth-heavy band PVT is one of our top inspirations. They blend classic ’70s synth sounds, bombastic percussion and guitars and use crazy rhythms. The band released a series of four free podcast mixes of influential musics based on different themes, and they are all amazing. Go find them!" (Jef)
